What does a mission trip with Lighthouse look like?
Dear Brothers and Sisters, I would like to define what a Lighthouse of Holiness mission trip looks like by using words that some visitors from Kentucky Mountain Bible School recently wrote in the open journal at El Aposento Alto (“The Upper Room”) - our living quarters. Levai Dariako, a young man from Papua New Guinea, wrote, “I love the strong emphasis on praying for the lost and evangelizing.” This is the heart of our ministry! We can assure you that those who come will be involved in praying for souls and outdoor evangelism, though work projects are often needed. He continued: “One of my favorite experiences was going to the park. I enjoyed playing ball with young boys AND sharing Jesus afterwards.” Caleb Epperson, a young man with a calling to preach, emphasized the importance of praying for the lost in his entry: “I am persuaded now more than ever of the need for and efficacy of prayer. We can do nothing without God’s empowering.” Lighthouse believes that to be an effective witness we must learn to tarry in prayer before we take to the streets. Jesus said “go”, but only after we wait until we are “endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49). Evangelism without prayer will go nowhere! Those who labor in prayer are most conscious of his presence when they are out there in a world of darkness. Caleb continued: “When we step out in faith in response to the call of God, we have the privilege of being not only those who spectate, but those who are the recipients of the ancient promise, ‘Lo, I am with you always. Even to the ends of the earth.’”(Matthew 28:20) But it is also our desire that the Lord lights a fire for lost souls in the hearts of all who come to Mexico. Caden Sixberry wrote, “This trip has changed the way I view ministry back in the States. I believe all ministries will vastly benefit from a focus on evangelism. As I go into ministry, I will hold a focus on going out into all the world to simply share the gospel.” Some have even received their calling to Missions whilst being on the field in Mexico. Stephen Deal who led the KMBC team on his fourth trip to Matamoros recorded these words: “My favorite place on the earth thus far has been walking the streets of Mexico and walking up the steps of these colorful and impoverished concrete building and sharing the Gospel. It was there I got my missionary call.” Boyd Chase who shared a powerful testimony at one of the rehabs had a calling that was confirmed: “I’m thankful for the opportunities this mission has granted and am very eager to begin my life in the mission field full time!” Finally, I would like to finish with the words of the only woman on the team who ventured into Mexico, Makayla Blevins: “Praying with people and witnessing God move in quiet, sacred moments reminded me that missions aren’t about us—they’re about obedience, love, and saying yes to where He calls us.” Lighthouse of Holiness is praying that “the Lord of the harvest…sends out” more workers into the drug harvest (Matthew 9:38). We are thankful for those who come and use their talents for God’s glory such as Dale Coffey who came from Michigan to fix our church roof. But he also played his part in the harvest, attending a drug rehab and caroling with the workers. *Our trips are offered exclusively offered to church groups and individuals with whom we have already established relationships and have the following understanding: It is imperative that the body of Christ guard against immorality in its midst and movements that seek to contaminate the pure gospel of Jesus Christ e.g. the New Apostolic Reformation, Critical Race Theory or Wokeness, the Prosperity Gospel, the Emerging Church movement, Purpose-driven ideology, Churchianity and any teaching that promotes worldliness over holiness. Lighthouse of Holiness is a Evangelical Christian ministry that is distinctively Wesleyan-Arminian in its understanding of the Word, but we welcome churches and individuals who agree on the essentials of the Christian faith (e.g. the Trinity, justification by faith, the virgin birth…etc.) and are respectful of our distinctives. We believe that the true Christian church needs to work together as one to win souls as Christ prayed:
“that they all (all believers) may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me" (John 17:21).
